May 15th ---Red's Birthday

Today was a tough day for Red. He was colicy in the morning. He was lying down and biting at his side. The doctor said that his system is very fragile now, but there is no impaction or gas. This can happen after surgery. They have eliminated his antibiotics because sometimes the drugs can affect the system. They will do an ultrasound to check motility in his intestines.
Today is Red's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RED!!! It is not the party that we planned for you, but we are all sending much love!
One of the interns and I took him for a walk and it seemed to help. Because of his incisions from surgery, they take him on short walks inside the hospital. I could only visit for an hour, but it did us both good. Please put him in your prayers for recovery. He is far from being over this and could be taken in for surgery again, anytime.
Please remember that we are a 501(c)3 non-profit charity and we can give you a tax exemption donation letter for your support of Red. If each of us gave a little, his bills, which are up to $9,000 so far, would be paid. Also, please consider adopting one of our rescued foals, mares or geldings.
Red's case is very unusual as his small intestines were sinking into his scrotum. We have rescued and adopted over 250 foals during the last 6 years and this is the first case of colic, but it is only because of this rare anatomical condition. Please see his pictures below (click on them and they will enlarge) and post a comment . More pictures, updates and video to follow. Thanks also for passing this link along to your horse loving friends. http://www.equineangels.blogspot.com/
